Why does Firefox never respond when I log on or change program?

When I first turn on my computer I get the message that Firefox is not Responding. If I want to go to my Bookmarks, it tells me the same thing. Every time I change a program it tells me Firefox is not RESPONDING.

I'm getting very FRUSTRATED WITH THIS!!!!!!!

How do I fix it?
